I was so excited to have this restaurant open again after remodeling, that i was actually chanting at work, "Chao"-"Pra"-"Ya", "Chao"-"Pra"-"Ya", "Chao"-"Pra"-"Ya"!!! My husband and I went after work in a great mood. We got there and got seated in the newly remodeled back room seating area and waited quite awhile to get our order taken, didn't wait too long at all for our appetizers...which were delicious...and then got our food and it was not so great. My Curry was laden with yummy sauce but void of half the veggies if was supposed to have in it and my husband's sweet and sour fish was tough and overcooked. To top it off, the server never came back. We never got the re-fills we wanted and we didn't get offered dessert, which we would have ordered. We didn't even get our check. We finally got up and went to the counter and the waiter was actually offended that we dare say that our check was never delivered. I was very sad and went back to work letting the people who asked how my dinner was know that my experience was not so great, when before I had raved about it! Maybe the remodel was not such a great idea. Rob

The best Thai food in town! The food is wonderful, fresh and perfectly prepared. The sauces are delicious, and there is always just enough. If you asked for hot, you get HOT, so it is good to know that. Location is an old diner in the Whittaker neighborhood - it is funky and interesting. My husband and I are vegans, and we are always taken care of - almost everything on the menu can be made vegetarian or vegan. Curries and stif-fried dishes are delicious. We have also gone with many meat eaters, and they have loved it as well. Chao Pray Ya recently opened a sister Restaurant downtown on Oak called Ta Ra Rin. This is the same exact menu and prices, but it is open until 10pm (CPY closes at 9pm) and on Sundays. Ta ra rin also has a different atmosphere - a bit more upscale, and more artistic food presentation. Both are wonderful though - which one you like is a matter of personal preference. This place has great food, but they lie about their vegan options. I have requested vegan food, clarified what vegan meant, paid for my food, asked again, this time adding "I'm allergic to meat", to be told there was shrimp paste in the food I was told was vegan three times now. They list that all dishes can be made vegan upon request, but then don't change anything.
