Basil Asian Bistro

This place has changed for the worse in the last year. The original owners, a young couple closed the place down at Christmas last year and it looked like it would never open again. It did, in the same location with the same name, but it is NOT the same restaurant.

The old menu was simple and excellent. Basil's Fried Rice was a sure-fire crowd pleaser. The alcohol prices were on the high side, but you forgave that because of the excellence of the menu and the service.

Well, the new place is, to put it mildly, awful. I don't know who the new owners are, but the servers are unfriendly, the menu is like reading War and Peace and everything is mediocre. It should not be allowed to make these kinds of changes and still retain the same name. It is disappointing and extremely sad.

I don't know why the old owners sold...the place was always busy, they had a good thing going for the community and it was a pleasure to visit.

I wouldn't recommend the new place to anyone. If they had been smart, they would have opened the doors with everything exactly the same. When you put 200 things on your menu, it is unlikely you make anything enough times to get good at it, so everything is thrown together. There is no signature dish. It's just a below par, lowest common denominator Thai-ish restaurant in an upscale neighborhood.

Stay away.
