My Thai is a great neighborhood restaurant, popular with the locals. In the dining room, you'll find a mix of students and faculty from the University of Pennsylvania, hipsters, and neighborhood families. The restaurant is owned and run by a family from Bangkok. My Thai is famous for their phad Thai, which has won several awards, and the Thai Curry Pot with chicken is also an excellent dish. Some other favorites are the Stirfried Basil with Shrimp (nice and spicy), and the Steamed Coho Salmon, which is served in a delicate black bean and ginger sauce. Everything is cooked to order, so the spiciness level can be altered to your taste. Their signature soup, My Thai soup, is an intriguing puree of codfish, coconut curry, and tomatoes. It achieves a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and smooth. The ambience is warm and welcoming, with fresh-cut flowers and candles on the tables, and Thai tapestries on the wall. Reasonably priced, too. This restaurant fills up quickly, especially on weekends, so reservations are recommended.
