The Green Papaya is easily my favorite Thai restaurant in town. The dining room is always spotless, and I have never received less than exemplary service there. Because I am watching what I eat, the entrees that are loaded with plenty of green and red peppers, broccoli, and choices of meats or tofu are ideal for me. The soups are always tasty and refreshing, and the tea is always fresh. While I am cutting back on carbohydrates, I still allow myself a dish of Thai spaghetti from time to time. No one else in town can match the high quality of this particular entree. Anyone who have never tried Thai cuisine before can easily find plenty of dishes here to enjoy. If you have any questions about the menu, the staff are always happy to help explain the entrees and make recommendations. Lenore Vickery

The Green Papaya has more than 70 items to choose from, including appetizers, soups, salads, fried rice dishes, curry dishes and entrees of beef, pork, chicken, fish or vegetrarian. We started with the blanket shrimp appertizer, marinated shrimp rolled in a cripsy wrapper and deep-fried, served with a red sweet and sour sauce. I am not a big shrimp person, so my dining companion enjoyed it more than me. My entree of cashew chicken was huge, but I managed to finish most of it. It was loaded with green and red bell peppers strips, onions, carrots, and plenty of cashews and chicken. We shared a large casserole dish of rice. My friend throughly enojoyed her garlic and black pepper pork entreem which she ordered "hot." (You have the option of ordering how spicy you want your entree.) The best part was the shredded cabbage. We wanted dessert, but the kitchen was only offering one choice that night: mango sticky rice. My friend is a fan of rice pudding so she was in heaven; I, on the other hand, managed only a few forkfuls of this gummy dish. Both of us enjoyed the delicious and juicy chunks of mango. Our service was the best part of our trip. We were waited on by a very friendly hostess and waiter, and even the cook came to check to make sure our food was hot enough. Our water glasses were refilled without us asking and dirty plates were cleared away immediately. The dining room is bery clean and bright, with life-like flowers on the tables and Thai batik prints on the walls. Two TVs were going in opposite corners, as was piped-in music. Neither intruded on our conversation. Dinner prices are higher than lunch, and seafood is about a dollar more per entree. My dinner was $12.50, cheaper than most restaurants for an appetizer, entree and dessert. I liked the service and the atmosphere more than the food, but that may be just the result of poor menu choices on my part.
