I have been to Thai House many times and kept coming back because their pad Thai and garlic pepper pork is one of the best I've had. We've been here with friends, family, for graduation parties and work lunches with an overall fair experience in terms of service. I made a reservation for a going-away party and had a pleasant experience with the woman on the phone. She was very courteous, but when our party got there it was a whole other experience. I felt like I was buying a used car from the gentelman who took our order. Even though we ordered an appetizer and some of us ordered drinks, he told us there had to be a minimum of one order per person. I would be fine with it if it were really a rule applied to all patrons and adhered by all staff. On their menu it says a minimum of $5 per person, NOT one order. He said he'd "give us a break" by letting us get 9 orders (I think after overhearing us complain). To top it off, when we paid our bill -- we gave an additional over the 15% gratutity that is automatically added to groups of 6 or more -- the woman came over and said we were short when we had actually given them more!! It is not only rude in front of a group, it showed how inept she was to come over before counting it twice. Luckily, I was with a group of friends, but I would be utterly embarassed if I took a large group of my family and coworkers - for such a horrible experience! I don't know what this persons problem was but Berkeley Thai House is the greatest Thai food I had ever eaten. And if she couldn't afford and order a person then she should have gone to Mcdonald's...cheap ass. The prices there are very affordable but you can't expect one dish to feed two to three people...it's just common sense. The inside environment is very hommie and the guy waiter was the best from the beginning to the end. Please try the Garlic Pepper Pork. It''s also a great place to bring your family and kids....love it.
